Stewardship

The NJFA supports stewardship of New Jersey’s forests through a broad range of programs running throughout the year.  We also serve on advisory committees, nominate delegates to various conventions/meetings, attend critical meetings of councils, commissions, agencies, and others, and monitor, track and comment on legislation and rulemaking affecting New Jersey’s forests and forest landowners.

Backyard Forestry in 90 Minutes – Online.  The NJFA presents a webinar on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 7pm.  Watch our Home Page for presentation announcements and registration and join our mailing list.

The NJ Woodland Stewards Program is an annual (typically in the fall), 3-1/2 day (in-person) program, combining classroom training and field training in all things forest, with a future volunteer commitment by participants.  Watch for announcements of registration opportunities and apply promptly, as seating is limited and there has been a waitlist.  The program is sponsored by the New Jersey Forestry Association and the NJ Forest Service.

NJFA YouTube Channel.  The NJFA YouTube channel library is extensive, and includes all of our previous Backyard Forestry webinars.

Walk-in-the-Woods.  This is a periodic event, featuring tours of public and private forests in New Jersey.  Watch our Home Page for announcements and registration and join our mailing list.

Annual Meeting.  The NJFA holds an in-person annual meeting, addressing important forest issues, and bringing together prominent panelists and presenters, including forestry professionals, scientists, educators, legislators, governmental units, legislators, and landowners.

Newsletters and Communications.  The NJFA produces periodic, informative newsletters on its activities and critical issues affecting NJ’s forests and forest landowners.  (Please update your email address when you join/renew your membership.)

Forest Stewardship Plans and Woodland Management Plans.  For information on developing a Forest Stewardship Plan or Woodland Management Plan for your forest property, you can contact a NJ State Approved Forester:    List of New Jersey State Approved Foresters
